Edinburgh

We ordered a FreeNow taxi to pick us up at 4:30 AM to take us to the airport for our day trip flight to Edinburgh. He was waiting for us in front of the hotel. As we drove along, he told us that he repairs printers by day, but needs to drive the taxi to help make ends meet. He had a few other fares before he would be going to work at 9:00 AM. He would have a few fares after work also.
The flight was about 1½ hours. A smaller plane with propellers. A bit bumpier than the large planes, but we also only got to about 14,000 feet. After we landed in Edinburgh and had some breakfast at Caffè Nero, and then we went to the tram to get into the city. We walked around the Royal Mile, and through Princes Street Gardens. They had the decorations still lit from the night before. Stopped in shops and just took in the sites. Walked up to Edinburgh Castle since we were there.

Being a bit hungry we decided to walk over to Greyfriars Bobby’s Bar. The food was delicious. We then wandered over to Princes Street East to take in the Edinburgh Christmas Market. Lots of vendors and wonderful things. There was an 80 meter tall swing ride that took you up and then swung you around right next to the Walter Scott monument. Not for me! We went over to the West gardens. Not as much, but some very nice children’s art on display. We took the tram back to the airport and ate at Pret a Manger. We then flew back to Dublin. We took the Dublin Express bus back to our hotel.
A really fun day, considering we took a round trip plane ride in the same day to another city!
